Academic Catalog
The BA in Digital Media Production emphasizes the preparation and presentation of creative digital content in multiple media formats. This highly interdisciplinary major creates a framework for cross-departmental collaboration by introducing students to key areas in digital media studies that traditionally are isolated in separate academic departments. In this integrated program, students will study writing for media, multimedia graphics and design, audio and video production, and media theory and analysis. The form and content of the curriculum intentionally resemble the converged media environment for which the Digital Media Production program prepares its students. This is an ideal program for students who are interested in the creative and professional uses of digital media technology and digital presentation. Students who successfully complete the B.A. in Digital Media Production will acquire marketable skills and produce a body of original work in areas likely to include: digital photography, digital videography, digital audio recording, multimedia journalism, and computer graphics, among others. Because the Digital Media Production major covers a breadth of media formats, students who wish to develop even greater depth in one area of specialization (e.g., writing for media, digital photography) are strongly encouraged to either double major or minor in one of the following programs: Studio Art, English, Dance & Theater, Music, Computer Science, or Film Studies.
